By establishing a granular set of descriptive items pertaining to technical and legal data access, it enables a practical implementation of FAIR data access for confidential microdata. The annodata framework benefits empirical research through improved reproducibility by rendering granular data used in publications findable and accessible. Data users benefit from a level playing field with clear data usage terms and efficient data access.
